Eating a healthy diet is one of the best ways to ensure that you stay strong as you get older. Here are our top 5 tips for eating healthily so that managing diabetes can be easier and more manageable. Read on to learn more about healthy snacks to keep you energized and focused throughout the day.

5 tips for eating healthy at any age

1. Make the most of your meals

As you get older, your body needs plenty of nutrients but fewer calories, so it’s important to make every bite count. Choose foods rich in vitamins and minerals, and add enough nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, or fiber.

2. Drink plenty of fluids

Keep your body energized by drinking lots of fluids throughout the day. Fill your water bottle, and enjoy some coffee, tea, milk, or 100% juices to stay hydrated.

3. Make eating a social event

Eating is a great way to connect with your friends and family. Use your phone or tablet to connect with them remotely over a healthy meal.

4. Add a touch of spice

As we age, limiting salt is getting more important. Fresh and dried herbs and spices, such as basil, oregano, and parsley, are a great way to add flavor without salt.

5. Keep your food safe

Discard food with an “off” odor, flavor, or texture. Refer to the “use by” dates for a guide to freshness. Canned or frozen foods store well if shopping trips are difficult.

Are you craving a snack?

Snacking is a great way to stay focused and energized. Combining protein and fiber helps stabilize your blood sugar levels throughout the day. Many grocery stores sell them already prepared, or you make them yourself.
