Starting October 1, 2026 you can obtain your weight loss medications from 9amHealth or your preferred provider. If you choose to obtain your prescription with your preferred provider, you can keep using 9amHealth for lifestyle and weight management support either way.  Participation with 9amHealth is not required in order to have your medications covered under your benefit plan beginning October 1, 2026.

Through December 31, 2026, only 9amHealth physicians can prescribe weight loss medications without prior authorization. If you use any other provider, they’ll need to obtain prior authorization for your medication to be covered under the benefit plan. However, members who got a prescription from a 9am provider in August or September of this year, will have a prior authorization automatically entered into the CVS system on their behalf.  Please check with CVS regarding when that PA expires.

If they wish to stay with their 9amHealth provider then no action is needed.

If they wish to transition to a non-9amHealth provider of their choice:

• Those who received a weight loss prescription from a 9amHealth provider in August or September will have a PA automatically entered into the CVS system and they can get their Rx from the qualified physician of their choice. This PA will be good until January 31, 2027.

• Those who want to transition back to their personal physician and did not receive a prescription from a 9amHealth provider in August or September, will need their non-9amHealth physician to request a prior authorization approval from CVS before their medication will be covered under the plan.

These program changes are expected to remain the same in 2027. Members can choose a 9amHealth physician or their own qualified physician to obtain their weight loss prescription.  Participation in the 9amHealth program will remain optional.

Beginning January 1, 2027, prior authorization approval will be required before weight loss prescriptions written by any provider, including 9amHealth physicians, are covered under the benefit plan.

• UnitedHealthcare HDHP
• UnitedHealthcare HMO

Members enrolled in Kaiser Permanente are currently not eligible.

This program is not available to Medicare Advantage enrollees.

Medication co-pays and co-insurance rates have not changed. You will not pay more or less based on whether you see a 9amHealth provider or another healthcare provider.

Your pharmacy benefit provider can give you the most accurate information about what you’ll pay for your medication.

We hope you’ll choose to stay with 9amHealth. If you do, you can continue getting your prescription and support from the same team that already knows your care.

• We manage the prior authorization process. Our team works with health plans every day to help navigate medication coverage and reduce avoidable delays with your refills.
• Everything stays in one place. Your prescription, health monitoring, and ongoing support are all managed through the same program and Care Team.
• 9amHealth remains a covered SHBP benefit in 2027. You can continue receiving weight loss support from your 9amHealth Care Team at no additional cost.

No. Those members already enrolled with 9amHealth will not need to re-enroll for 2027 and the move into 2027 will be seamless.

Virtual care allows you to receive care from the 9amHealth team online and through your smartphone. We recommend downloading the 9amHealth app to access all available features, but you can also use a computer, laptop, or tablet.

Calls with the Care Team can also be completed by phone.

If you don’t have access to a secure computer, you can complete your calls with our Care Team by phone.

We recommend checking your 9amHealth messages at least once a week to stay up to date with your care plan. SHBP members can call 9amHealth at 888-870-9542 for more information.

No. You should keep seeing your doctor. 9amHealth offers additional support for weight loss and related health conditions, including diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and will coordinate with your physician on their services. If you’d like us to work with your doctor, simply share their contact information during enrollment.

If you are receiving your weight loss prescription from a 9am physician, your 9amHealth Care Team may recommend lab testing before prescribing.

If you receive your weight loss prescription from your personal physician but 9amHealth is providing lifestyle support to you, then 9amHealth will not request that you complete any labs.

We can help you find a nearby lab and schedule an appointment if needed. Where available, we may also be able to come to your home or send you a lab kit. When your results are available, your Care Team will review them with you.
