Which medications does 9amHealth prescribe?

At 9amHealth, we specialize in providing care for individuals living with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and obesity.  Based on your medical history, lab tests, and insurance coverage, we will prescribe the most effective medication for you. We help navigate insurance approvals.

Here are examples of medications we may prescribe based on your medical condition: 

GLP-1 medications:

GLP-1 prescriptions are only available to member who meet the appropriate clinical criteria.

  • Dulaglutide (Trulicity)
  • Liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda)
  • Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy)
  • Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound)

SGLT-2 inhibitor medications:

  • Bexagliflozin (Brenzavvy)
  • Canagliflozin (Invokana)
  • Dapagliflozin (Farxiga)
  • Empagliflozin (Fardiance)
Insulins:
  • Glargine (Lantus, Basaglar, Semglee, Toujeo)
  • Degludec (Tresiba)

Generic medications:

Am I eligible to take medication for weight loss?

GLP-1 prescriptions are only available to members who meet the clinical criteria for weight loss medications. Regardless of these criteria, your 9amHealth clinicians will work with you to find the most long-term sustainable care plan, which will always include lifestyle coaching and support and may include medications to assist with weight loss.

  • To qualify for prescriptions like Mounjaro, Ozempic, Trulicity, and other GLP-1 medications approved for diabetes, you need to have a confirmed Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis. 
  • For GLP-1 medications approved for weight loss (Wegovy, Zepbound), you must meet specific diagnostic criteria such as a BMI greater than 30 or greater than 27 with co-conditions.

At 9amHealth, we follow FDA indications and health plan requirements—we will never prescribe a GLP-1 medication for non-approved use. For any questions regarding your medications, please contact our Care Team at support@join9am.com or call/text us at (202) 932-9958.
How will I receive my medications?
We will send your prescription to your preferred pharmacy or mail-order pharmacy linked to your insurance. 
Can I use my insurance to cover 9amHealth?

We currently accept the following PPO plans:

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas
  • Anthem of California
  • Aetna in Texas
  • Aetna in California
  • UHC in California 
  • UHC in Texas

If covered by any of the above plans, you may be eligible for care and coverage of the $69 membership fee as part of your benefits. We cannot guarantee eligibility. We are actively working on expanding our insurance coverage. Additionally, if your insurance covers your medications, copays may apply.
Why do I need to sign up for a monthly membership if I only need a prescription?
Our monthly membership is designed to ensure we provide comprehensive and personalized care. While you may initially need a prescription, our Care Team will follow up with you regularly to monitor your health and adjust dosages as necessary. This could involve ongoing lab tests or other medical evaluations. Continuous care is crucial in managing conditions like diabetes effectively. By signing up for a monthly membership, you're investing in whole-body care beyond just a prescription.
What will my medications cost?
The cost of your medications will depend on your specific insurance coverage. Some insurance plans may cover some of the costs, leaving you to pay a certain copay. If you purchase your medications outside of insurance, you will be responsible for out-of-pocket costs. Your Care Team member will discuss the most affordable, effective, and clinically appropriate medications with you.
How do at-home lab tests work?

Lab tests are an important part of your care plan as the results give you and your Care Team insights into what is going on in your body. We offer two types of lab tests, depending on where you live. All lab tests include a free consultation with a member of our Care Team to review your results and recommend the next steps.

At-home labs: 
Once you schedule your appointment online, we’ll send a licensed lab technician to your home or workplace. They will draw your blood just like in a lab but in the comfort of your home. Your blood sample will be taken to a lab, and 2-3 days later, you’ll receive your results via your 9amHealth account. At-home labs are available in 30 states.

Lab visit: 
If at-home labs are unavailable in your area, we’ll match you with your nearest Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics Patient Service Center (over 4,000 locations across the US). You can schedule your appointment online or choose to walk in. Lab results will be available within 1-2 days in your 9amHealth account.
