Why practice at 9amHealth

Why clinicians choose to work at 9amHealth

Our clinicians help thousands of people lose weight, lower their blood pressure and A1c, and take fewer medications. Here's what our data shows, and how we keep care safe and high-quality at scale.

Practice medicine the way it should work

Most clinicians went into medicine to change patients' lives, not to race through 15-minute visits. Cardiometabolic care is where that gap hurts most. Obesity affects more than 40% of US adults, and it often comes with hypertension, diabetes, and fatty liver disease. Yet there aren't enough specialists to meet the need.

At 9amHealth, we built a different model. Our clinicians deliver evidence-based obesity and cardiometabolic care virtually, through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous consults. That means more touchpoints with each patient, more time for clinical thinking, and results you can see in the data.

Asynchronous consults at 9amHealth are not simply chart review and advice. Our technology-enabled clinical platform provides you with the details you need to make a safe, effective clinical decision efficiently and with confidence. That means presenting you with recent labs, vital signs, medical history, a summary of recent Care Team conversations, and the recommended next steps based on our evidence-based clinical guidelines.

The outcomes your care produces

We study our own results and share them to build credibility with our patients, our clients, and our internal teams. Two recent analyses, presented as scientific posters, show what our clinicians achieve over 12 months.

Weight loss and cardiometabolic improvement (n=5,230)

Patients averaged about 10 provider consults a year, and 95% of consults were asynchronous.

  • 13.6% average body weight loss, with 77.3% of patients reaching at least 5%
  • A1c down 0.6 points (6.1% to 5.5%) in patients starting at 5.7% or higher
  • Blood pressure down 10.2/6.1 mmHg in patients with stage 1 hypertension or higher, and 58.2% improved by at least one stage

Results held across every treatment path. That means you can tailor care to each patient, and feel confident that non-GLP-1 treatment paths deliver highly effective outcomes.

Medication burden (n=663)

In an employer-sponsored cohort, patients on cardiometabolic medications at baseline filled fewer of them after a year: from 1.58 to 1.14 on average. Total medications filled dropped from 3.71 to 3.11. Patients who stepped down medications still improved, with systolic BP down 5.0 mmHg, A1c down 0.35 points, and body weight down 13.9%. Results were consistent with or without GLP-1 use.

For clinicians, this is satisfying and high-value work: thoughtful deprescribing as patients get healthier, making medication regimens simpler and safer.

Asynchronous doesn't mean hands-off. Frequent touchpoints mean our clinicians spot side effects, lab changes, and red flags early, often sooner than they would between quarterly in-person visits.

  • Low adverse event rates. Across 61,559 patients, <1% experienced any adverse event, and only 0.01% experienced a serious adverse event over 18 months.
  • Escalation when it matters. Clinicians can refer any patient to a synchronous video visit, or refer to in-person care whenever the clinical picture calls for it.
  • Data-informed decisions. Prescribing and titration are guided by lab results, connected device readings (such as blood pressure cuffs and glucose meters), and patient-reported symptoms, which are queried every month.
  • Evidence-based protocols. Shared clinical guidelines support consistent medication starts, dose changes, and deprescribing, while leaving room for clinical judgment.

Quality you can count on: peer review and chart audits

Great outcomes come from a culture of clinical accountability and learning. Every clinician at 9amHealth is part of it.

  • Routine chart audits. 10% of all charts are reviewed for documentation quality, adherence to guidelines, and prescribing safety.
  • Structured peer review. Clinicians review each other's cases against shared standards. Feedback is collaborative and focused on learning, not blame.
  • Case conferences. Complex or unusual cases are discussed during team meetings, so no one practices in isolation.
  • Closing the loop. Audit and peer review findings feed back into our protocols, training, and clinician support tools.
  • Physician leadership. Our clinical program is led by board-certified endocrinologists and obesity medicine specialists.

What practicing at 9amHealth looks like

  • Diversity of work. Asynchronous consults between synchronous visits provide a change in rhythm and variety to your day, helping prevent burnout.
  • Specialty-level work. Obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and lipid management, using the full toolkit of medications and lifestyle care.
  • Impact at scale. Reach patients who would never make it to a specialty clinic at a place and time that works for them, and that care is covered by their employer or health plan.
  • A team that publishes. Contribute to real-world evidence that shapes how cardiometabolic care is delivered.
